Off-road adventure awaits in the Bronco or Bronco Sport
If you’re wanting more of an offroad vehicle, then look for the Bronco, and the Bronco Sport.
FORD BRONCO
The Bronco was made to rival the Jeep Wrangler, and it does just that. If you’re wanting a used one, it might be hard to find one that was made before 2021, due to its 25-year hiatus. Given the nature of the Bronco, it may be hard to find one that hasn’t been beat up too much as the off-road focused vehicle. While the price may be high for a newer version, it comes with plenty of comfort features, and better technology throughout the vehicle, making it more appealing. The full-size Bronco comes with a 2.3L turbocharged EcoBoost engine capable of producing 300 horsepower.
FORD BRONCO SPORT
The Bronco Sport was introduced in 2021 equipped with a 1.5L EcoBoost engine that can output 181 horsepower. The Sport was made to be the more affordable version of the larger, and more luxurious Bronco. Just because it’s cheaper and features less luxurious materials doesn’t mean that it can’t conquer the outdoors. It still comes with an all-wheel drive system that comes standard with G.O.A.T modes helping you tackle any terrain you decide to take on.
It also is the best of both worlds because it can cart you around in town with lower gas mileage than the Bronco.Being that this vehicle was introduced in 2021, it makes it a little easier to find yourself a first edition at a relatively good price, while still being in good condition.
Family Sized SUVs available in the Expedition and the Explorer
If you’re wanting a more family-oriented vehicle, then you might want an Expedition, or Explorer.
FORD EXPLORER
The Ford Explorer was introduced to replace the two door Bronco all the way back in 1991, and since then it has been a staple that other SUVs try to replicate. The Explorer is known for its technology, above standard safety, and overall reliability. While the interior material of older model years may not be as desirable, it won’t be too much of an issue thanks to its lowered price. The most recent iteration of the Explorer, the engine is a 2.3L EcoBoost engine producing 300 horsepower.
FORD EXPEDITION
The Ford Expedition is a full-size SUV. In the earlier years, this vehicle was made to seat up to nine passengers, with more recent iterations seating up to eight. This is what makes it such a great family hauler–it seats more than other vehicles in the SUV lineup. The Expedition is also a long-lasting vehicle, remaining reliable for more than 200,000 miles. Throughout the years, the Expedition has come with a very powerful engine with the most recent generation coming with a 3.5L EcoBoost engine producing 375 horsepower.
Welcome to the world of Crossover SUVs
If you’re looking for crossovers, then Ford has you covered, you can look for the Escape, Edge, and Flex.
FORD EDGE
The Ford Edge is your standard size crossover and it comes in two generations. If you’re looking for an older family vehicle that has current safety and comfort features, then this might be what you want. The Edge features side curtain airbags, front side-impact airbags, and traction control. With the 2011 refresh the vehicle was outfitted with a reverse sensing system, all these features work to keep your family safe. Being that it’s a first gen, you should be able to find one at a pretty decent price.
If you’re looking for an early second gen, you can look for the best safety features to be carried on, with a new exterior look with the grille, headlights, a rear-view camera, and for the interior, you can expect more room. Not only is this vehicle safe, it is comfortable for those inside.
FORD ESCAPE
The Ford Escape is your compact crossover SUV of the group, while not as large as some of the others, this vehicle comes with 4 generations, constantly refined to make the best one possible. The main goal across generations was trying to make it more aerodynamic to make a more efficient vehicle. And in the third generation they cracked it, making a more fuel-efficient vehicle in the process. On top of being more fuel efficient, this generation added a hands-free liftgate, as long as you have the key on you, at the swipe of your foot you will have access to the rear of the vehicle.
Also in the third generation, the vehicle received a few new features in 2017. Adding Sync 3 to the vehicle as well as Sync connect, this allows the driver to remotely check their vehicle’s fuel level, lock and unlock the vehicle, and start the engine. If you’re wanting the most out of your vehicle, but don’t want to buy used, then this generation Ford Escape would be a perfect fit, the age makes the price more appealing and still new enough to not have a ton of miles.
FORD FLEX
The Ford Flex had one generation, but received an update in its lifecycle. With the first model design ranging from 2009-2012, you can look for 6 to 7 passenger seating depending on the configuration. In 2013 the vehicle received a slight update that lasted until it was retired in 2019, this update featured a new steering wheel design as well as the removal of the paddle shifters.
This vehicle was available in 3 trims throughout the majority of the life cycle, with another being added for 2011 and 2012. The SE trim comes with 17-inch wheels, as well as keyless entry. Given the age of the vehicle, it comes with a CD player, and auxiliary port. Later in the life cycle, this trim received Sync capabilities. If you’re wanting top of the line luxury without breaking the bank, then the Limited might be what you want. Or if you want to enjoy the resurgence of physical media, then the Flex has what you’re looking for.
