The Ford Fusion was redesigned in this generation and was built on the Ford CD4 platform. The second generation Fusion was built with a longer wheelbase and is bigger overall. The front suspension was updated from the previous generation as well. Five different powertrain options were built, including two hybrid variants.

The 2020 Ford Fusion pricing came in around $24,365 to $35,995 depending on the trim. The trim options available during this generation were the S, SE, Titanium, Hybrid, Sport, Platinum, and Energi trim. The Ford Focus consistently got updates throughout the years to help it remain modern and to deliver a better driving experience, those updates were:

• 2017: Every Fusion received new front and rear styling, and a new rotary-controlled automatic transmission. Two new trim levels were introduced, the Sport and the Platinum trims. This year most Fusion models were updated with Ford’s new SYNC 3 infotainment system.
• 2019: The Ford Fusion adds Ford’s “Co-Pilot 360” as a standard on every model. This includes automatic emergency braking, lane-keep assist, blind-spot and rear-cross-traffic warning systems, automatic wipers, and automatic high beams. Models this year also received front and rear exterior updates. The Platinum trim was dropped, and the hybrid is no longer available with the base S trim.
• 2020: All trims this year offer Ford’s SYNC 3 touchscreen infotainment system. The trim selection has been condensed to four models: the S, SE, SEL, and Titanium. The SE and the Titanium offered hybrid options, and the Titanium offered a plug-in hybrid. This model was discontinued this year.

The Ford Fusion was built on Ford’s CD3 platform and the base engine was a 2.3-liter Duratec that produced 160 horsepower. The engine was paired with a 5-speed manual or automatic transmission. Originally front-wheel drive was the only option available, but later all-wheel drive also has been implemented into the design.

Many design features were brought about during the first generation of the Fusion, those were:

• 2007: all-wheel drive options became available on available V-6 models. The Fusion gained front-seat side airbags, perimeter alarms, and a side air curtain which had only been available as cost options previously.
• 2008: Ford added ABS and tire pressure monitoring as standard features to the Fusion. Optional features were added that included rear parking assist and Ford’s SYNC multimedia and communication system. The Sport Appearance Package which included 18-inch aluminum wheels, stiffer suspension, a rear spoiler, smoke-colored grille, and red seat and leather stitching was added this year. The Moon and Tune package was added with a power moonroof and an eight-speaker sound system with an amplifier.
• 2009: Electronic stability control was added and the Ford Fusion Hybrid came to the market.
• 2010: Ford updated the Fusion with new front and rear fascia designs, interior redesigns, and powertrain revisions. The interior added a new optional 8-inch screen navigation control, Ford’s trademark “Ice Bleu” new illumination on the controls and gauges, and a new center console design. The engines included adaptive knock control and fuel cutoff features to improve fuel economy.
